Members of the congregation of Shaughnessy Heights United Church (SHUC) have supported the Chishaun Housing Society (CHS) since its incorporation over 33 years ago. CHS operates Oakridge House at 625 – West 45th Avenue, Vancouver, which is near Oakridge Mall. Oakridge House has 77 units of non-market housing for seniors. Dozens of SHUC members have been CHS Board members over the last 33 years and assisted in providing safe stable subsidized housing for seniors. That historic support is shown in:
1. A 2005 video which was produced by Alison MacLean who was a SHUC nominated director of CHS at that time. It was made as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of Oakridge House (9 minutes);
2. A 2016 video produced by Sue Yuen, former co-chair of CHS, which provides information on the history and motivation of CHS from her perspective (7 minutes).
Approximately 40 SHUC members have recently signed a ‘Friends of CHS’ statement.
SHUC is not currently affiliated with CHS nor is it involved in CHS’ operation of Oakridge House. The videos have been posted on the SHUC website to show the strong historic and ongoing support by members of the congregation of SHUC in CHS and its operation of Oakridge House.
