Music is an integral part of life and service at Shaughnessy Heights United Church. The Sanctuary Choir provides music at Sunday services (September through June), as well as for special services such as Lessons and Carols, Tenebrae, and Drag Communion.

Music at SHUC is closely tied with the life and work of the church, and our choir brings the voice and activities of the congregation to life through music. Choral music deepens our worship services and our spirituality, strengthening our community and transcending the boundaries of denomination, drawing us all together in God’s love.

Our choral repertoire draws from a broad range of pieces which reflect the diversity of God’s creation. The choir sings many works by women, queer and trans people, Indigenous composers, and Black composers, including Canadian and World Premières of new pieces from such artists. The choir also sings many pieces from established classical and choral repertoire. Over the years, the group has presented its own concerts and has collaborated in performances of larger works, including the Requiems of Mozart, Fauré, and Brahms.
